Bowl of Plenty

Here is another Maggie B patterns I just finished, called Bowl of Plenty. I added some very old buttons and dressed the birds up a bit with some stitchery and linen ric-rac trim. Now I need to find the perfect spot for it and pound just a few more holes in the wall.
This pattern is available in my Etsy shop.

I can never resist buying vintage lace and buttons at thrift stores. I was raised by a Hungarian grandma, who during her "free " moments had either a crochet hook in her hand or a prayer book. So her spirit lives within me still...nearly 60 years later.
I enjoy using these textile treasures with their hidden history and create something (I feel) useful in our times. And in this case; a needle-book. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty persnickety about my needles and they vary for each project. So it's nice to have a "special" case to keep these ready for use.
This case is a test model for a class I'll be teaching in Portland; a "make and take" class. But now I have to make another  one to track my time, to make sure I schedule the time correctly. What will I ever do with 2 needle-cases?!!!
All of the stitches used are pretty basic: fly, chain, buttonhole and colonial knots.
This kit is available in my Etsy shop.

Stitching Away

Amazing what you can get accomplished waiting for the ferry..... I'm glad I took a project along for the ride. We had a pleasant trip over to Whidby Island....stopped at a wonderful bakery in Langley and made a stop at Quilter's Workshop and a couple thrift stores. A low stress day! Just what I needed.

Wool Eggs

I know that Easter has passed but I think that these wool eggs will look sweet in the home during this beautiful Spring season. I prepped one so I could work on it while we're on the road to have something to do with my hands! I sealed the edges with Fray Bloc, since the pieces are small. And I didn't want the motifs to fall apart over the years of handling. I will whip stitch the parts in place with a coordinating color of thread....then embellish.

A Wool Day in Everett

Lorenzo and I had a very fine leisurely day delivering wool across the canal to Bonnie's wonderful new location in Everett. If you are ever in this area stop by her shop: Loving Stitches. She 's also an exquisite basket maker!
The weather was perfect and we had a delicious lunch at the Hungry Pelican in Snohomish..****
