A Rooster Hooked Mat

This is a small piece I recently completed. I'm liking "small" these days. Our home is not very big so it makes perfect sense to create smaller pieces. I really enjoyed working on this piece; using yarns from my stash, some silk sari ribbon and of course our hand dyed wool.

Soon I will be offering this mat as a kit with a beginner in mind....not too intimidating nor too pricey of an investment. And who doesn't like birds?

Still Life; Wool and Cotton Applique

I've been working on this small wall hanging. Marilyn of https://www.etsy.com/shop/WovenwindFiberArts brought some more enticing hand dyed trims to our applique group yesterday. You see on the bottom, some very bright cheesecloth? It's gorgeous! You know I tend to shy away from brights but I think this will work perfectly.
I get so inspired from Janet Bolton's work. Her book is the one behind my piece. If you are unfamiliar with her, you must check out her work.

Hooked House Kit

I recently made a new rug hooking kit which is small and a great project for a beginner. It can easily be hooked using a 7" hoop. I especially like the Morgan for this small project. I also added trims: hand dyed rickrack, a velvet yo-yo, a wool leaf, sari ribbon and a small heart charm. I plan to teach this as a class in the fall at the NW Quilting Expo. Look for more information as the date gets closer.

West Sound Quilt Show: "Tradition with a Twist"

We will be vending this Friday and Saturday; October 6th and 7th at the West Sound Quilt Show  9:00 to 5:00. The event is at the Presidents Hall, Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton, WA.

Darlene will be demonstrating traditional rug hooking and wool applique. So stop by our booth which is #10.

Here's one of Darlene's latest rug hooking pieces: Garden Cat. She likes to work with primitive color and style in her hooked work. This piece was an adaptation of one of her wool applique pieces: A Cat in the Garden. Both of the cat works are available in our shop as patterns. The applique Cat in the Garden is also available as a kit.

Darlene Sabo Dyeing Wool

Greetings!

We recently moved our blog from "blogger" to our new website olympicwoolworks.com, which has been a long time coming. We're excited about this change, especially having our blog and shop under the same roof.  Olympic Wool Works has been on Etsy for the past 5 years and that shop remains open for business. We've received many positive reviews for our product and services on Etsy. Check it out. Please browse around this site while you're here and let us know what you think. Needless to say, the website is an infant and has lots of room for growth, development, and expansion. We were anxious to get up and running so we begin with a very basic site.

I'll post updates for events, shows, classes, and wool group activities at local quilt shops, that I participate in.

We thank you for your support over the last 5 years on Etsy and Blogger. We truly appreciate it!

Post-dyeing handiwork.
