A New Project In the Works

I'm in the collecting mode. I decided on colors, possible threads, maybe some beads. I will have to refresh my memory on transferring lettering onto wool.

Wool Bundle of the Month for February

This month I am offering two bundles: MARIGOLD and MARMALADE.  MARIGOLD is a very bright yellow-orange and does indeed look like marigolds. MARMALADE is the same color but toned down with a bit of brown dye. They compliment each other beautifully. These bundles are offered at a discount for the duration of the whole month of February, then will be listed at the regular price. The bundles are 5 packs, meaning there are 5 different fabrics in each bundle.  The textures used may be different than pictured due to the availability of the fabric.

Fat quarters will be offered of each colors at a special price.

Wool Bundle of the Month Starts

I have decided to feature one new color of our 5-pack bundles each month...probably during the first week. These bundles will be offered at a special price, for the duration of the month, then will be listed at their regular price.

For the kick off this month I am offering 2 new colors: GERANIUM and TEABERRY  bundles as well as yardage in these stunning colors.

This may not be the case every month. We shall see how it goes. The response was very favorable for January and thank you to all who participated. Please sign up if you are interested in being on an email list. You can do so on our homepage at the bottom of the page.

Shadow Box Part 2

Shadow Box Part 2

I used tape so I would stay within boundary....I've learned this from past mistakes. This was the only tape I had on hand...it worked. For the grass on the bottom, I gathered the wool, then pinned in place and stitched it down with regular sewing thread. I decided to leave the gathering in. I embroidered simple straight lines...kind of like grass. In my next photo you'll see that I changed the beads...3 smaller ones on the heart and one on the small flower. I will be adding French knots along/on the stem.

A Shadow Box

Kicking around a idea for a new shadow box. Right now I'm in the collecting stage...beads, threads, colors. I've purchased the paper I will cover the boxes with...has sweet little birds all over. I've made the taffeta hearts. This was the time I used the Clover yo-yo heart maker and it does work. I will stamp a word, to be determined, onto the twill tape, but I think I'll tea dye it first. The background fabric is a primitive white which has little flecks of darkness in it. I want the piece to look old.

A New Vintage Needle-Book in the Works

I've been working on a new design for a needle-book. I have a vast collection of lace. For this needle-book I dyed the wool a very pale pink and the lace I tea dyed. If you never did this before it is so very easy. I just put the lace in a cup and steeped for about an hour. I used a black tea but you could use any type of tea and get different results. There's a vintage button and a cord which I crocheted and added a bead at the end.

I will be posting the finished results soon...and have only a handful of kits available. So you'll have to be quick to purchase one.

PRIMROSES, PART 2

PRIMROSES, PART 2

I positioned 4 of the leaves first and the flower pot. Whipped stitched them in place. Then I stitched around each leaf in a chain stitch with pearl cotton #12 Valdani #M30.  I removed the basting and embroidered down the center in the fly stitch. I used variegated floss, 3 strands. (DMC4506)

On the flower pot, I couched cotton tape ribbon with 6 strands of floss, (DMC4506).

The background fabric is a black and white texture; mill dyed. The leaves are a spot dyed piece and the flower pot is blue spruce.

A Rooster Hooked Mat

A Rooster Hooked Mat

This is a small piece I recently completed. I'm liking "small" these days. Our home is not very big so it makes perfect sense to create smaller pieces. I really enjoyed working on this piece; using yarns from my stash, some silk sari ribbon and of course our hand dyed wool.

Soon I will be offering this mat as a kit with a beginner in mind....not too intimidating nor too pricey of an investment. And who doesn't like birds?
