Famore Scissors

Famore Scissors

These scissors are my favorite for all-purpose usage. Sharp and slightly serrated to add a little extra grip; especially helpful on small pieces. And the bonus for me is the comfy handle which is spacious and very flexible. Try them and see for yourself! They're available through our website.

We also listed the complete line of Moire wool threads on the website.  We're really excited about being able to offer these truly beautiful threads on our site. They have been very popular at all of the quilt shows we've taken them to.

We've also posted a bunch of new mill dyed wool fat quarters and for those of you itching to try rug hooking out, we added a couple of patterns and a hook (the instrument that makes rug hooking possible) to get you started.

New Products From Olympic Wool Works

We'll soon be adding the full spectrum of Rustic Moire Wool Threads. We are very excited about this, as they are beautiful threads that work very nicely with wool applique and embroidery with wool in general. We've also got some new mill-dyed wool fabrics coming out, hand-dyed wool bundles and pieces, and some new patterns. (The patterns are already posted, in fact: two rug hooking patterns and a wool applique pillow).

Olympic Wool Works: Finishing the Old Year and Preparing for the New One

We had a wonderful year of shows and now we get to take a breather until March. In the meantime we have orders to fill, dye lots of wool, add new items to our website inventory, thoroughly update the website, and create new designs for patterns. Designing patterns is what I enjoy doing the most. It's nice to have some time to be creative. We'll keep you informed about our new stuff and additions in the newsletter. Here's a peak at one of my new patterns: "Pick Me": Applique Pillow.  I'm working on the publication of the pattern and it will be completed fairly soon.

I've also used some of my free time to hang out with my wool lady friends. Here are a few pictures of their latest work:

Here's a couple of hooked rugs (and a future hooked rug) by Nancy in Issaquah:

This is her cat's portrait.

Nancy purchased a bunch of wool fabric from Olympic Wool Works to make this primitive tiger.

Christmas by Susan from Port Angeles, WA.

This interesting hooked rug is also by Susan

. Hooked bouquet by Tia, from Port Angeles.

Knitted and felted purse by Debbie, from Port Angeles.

We'll be getting out a newsletter within a week that will let you know about our new listings on the website, our winter shows, and any other news that might come up by then.

Thanks for checking in at the blog.

WSQ Quilt Show in Spokane

Olympic Wool Works in Spokane

Our trip to Spokane turned out to be a real positive adventure. After a trying journey over the Snoqualamie Pass through the pouring rain, we spent five delightful days in Spokane, Washington.  The purpose of the trip was to attend the WSQ Quilt Show as vendors. This was Olympic Wool Works first experience at this show and we're very pleased to have been a part of a very, very nice event.  Visitors were greeted with live harp music at the door before they had to navigate three fairly larger rooms full of beautifully made quilts. We hope to make this an annual event.

Darlene will be teaching a class in Port Gamble, WA at Quilted Strait Quilt Shop. Students will be learning to create a pincushion with a flower motif. It will be an exercise in wool applique and hand embroidery. Class will be held on Nov. 5 at 11:00 - 2:30.

November 10 - 12 Olympic Wool Works will be at the Block Party Quilters Quilt Show in Issaquah, WA. Issaquah is a fun town nestled in the beautiful foothills of the Cascade Mountains. This will be our last show of the year. Once we return home from Issaquah we'll be spending a lot of time with our online shops and their related activities (such as developing this blog). We happened to launch the website and blog just before our busiest season for shows began, so it's been a struggle to try to get everything in proper order and make all of our requisite communications. I plan to be better at it come winter (and beyond).

West Sound Quilt Show: "Tradition with a Twist"

We will be vending this Friday and Saturday; October 6th and 7th at the West Sound Quilt Show  9:00 to 5:00. The event is at the Presidents Hall, Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton, WA.

Darlene will be demonstrating traditional rug hooking and wool applique. So stop by our booth which is #10.

Here's one of Darlene's latest rug hooking pieces: Garden Cat. She likes to work with primitive color and style in her hooked work. This piece was an adaptation of one of her wool applique pieces: A Cat in the Garden. Both of the cat works are available in our shop as patterns. The applique Cat in the Garden is also available as a kit.

Classes at Northwest Quilting Expo

On Fri, Sep 29, 2017 at Noon to 1:45 pm Darlene will be teaching a class:

                  Wool Applique Pin

Students will be making small wool appliquéd pins from hand-dyed wool! Stitches used to embellish pins will be chain, buttonhole and lazy daisy. Darlene usually makes her wool applique pins off the cuff. She just makes each one up as they come. So, there will be some room for improvisation in this class.

On Sat, Sep 30, 2017 at Noon to 3:45 pm she’ll be teaching:

       Wool Needle Book

In this class students will be making a vintage-looking wool needle book with wool and vintage laces. Stitches to be perfected are the blanket stitch, couching, fly, chain, and colonial knots.

We sell a couple of the pins on our Etsy Shop and the Needle Book sells on Etsy and the website as a kit with the pattern.

Come join us if you’re in the Portland area next weekend and enjoy a very good quilt show put on by the Northwest Quilting Expo. They really put on a great exhibit.

Darlene Sabo Dyeing Wool

Greetings!

We recently moved our blog from "blogger" to our new website olympicwoolworks.com, which has been a long time coming. We're excited about this change, especially having our blog and shop under the same roof.  Olympic Wool Works has been on Etsy for the past 5 years and that shop remains open for business. We've received many positive reviews for our product and services on Etsy. Check it out. Please browse around this site while you're here and let us know what you think. Needless to say, the website is an infant and has lots of room for growth, development, and expansion. We were anxious to get up and running so we begin with a very basic site.

I'll post updates for events, shows, classes, and wool group activities at local quilt shops, that I participate in.

We thank you for your support over the last 5 years on Etsy and Blogger. We truly appreciate it!

Post-dyeing handiwork.
